Peter Anthony Cooke

Peter has been sketching buildings and street scenes since his schooldays.  Unsurprisingly, he subsequently trained as an architect.

During his architectural career he has worked on a number of significant historic buildings including the Mansion House and Windsor Castle.  His work has included planning the modernisation and repair of old buildings as well designing some new build housing in a traditional manner.

From sketching Peter moved on to watercolour painting, where the underlying drawing remains the structure.  In his watercolours he has enjoying building up layers of different colour washes with the undercolour grinning through, but leaving highlights of unpainted paper.

Peter has also made etchings, training at Morley College in South London.  Some of these etchings have been created with three different plates which are printed one after each other on the paper. In these tone has been created in aquatint and some areas of free washes have been painted directly on the plate in acid.

Peter has completed many watercolour commissions for clients – sometimes working on-site and sometimes working from photographs or videos.  Please use the “Contact” tab on the website if you would like to ask any questions.

This website shows Peter’s work split into four sections: Italian & French scenes, English scenes, Interior compositions and Etchings.
